Biography

Mr. Chandler is entering his fourteenth year as a teacher in Howard County. He is starting his first year as the orchestra director at Mt. Hebron HS and Patapsco MS.  Before arriving at Hebron, he has been the orchestra director at Long Reach High School, Bellows Spring ES, Mayfield Woods MS, and Elkridge Landing MS. Under his direction, his ensembles have received Superior ratings in local, state, and national competitions. He has also served as an adjudicator for county and state level Solo and Ensemble Festivals, and has been an adjudicator for All-State Orchestra auditions.

Mr. Chandler started his musical journey in Howard County while attending Forest Ridge Elementary School. He chose the cello because the bass did not fit on the bus. From third grade on, Mr. Chandler continued studying the cello and began learning bass in middle school and tuba in high school. He also performed in the choir and Madrigal singers and acted in the musicals at Reservoir High School. He attended Towson University to study under Cecylia Barczyk, earning a B.S. in Music Education. He later attended McDaniel College to earn a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and complete his Administrator I Certification. Mr. Chandler is expecting to be National Board Certified this December, 2024.

Beyond teaching in public schools, Mr. Chandler teaches private cello lessons and also does numerous performances with musicals, weddings, and other events. In his free time, Mr. Chandler enjoys watching sports, reading, grilling, and whittling.
