For students interested
in growing the art of performance in color guard
Welcome to the Collective Indoor Guard!  We are excited to offer a winter color guard experience for students throughout Howard County.  The Collective Indoor Guard is a voluntary, extra-curricular ensemble and is open to any students enrolled in a HCPSS high school.
WHAT IS INDOOR GUARD?
Indoor guard is a team of visual artists/performers who perform choreographed dances (also known as routines or shows) while manipulating various pieces of equipment or props to enhance and interpret music or a theme.  Equipment includes a combination of flags, “mock” rifles, “mock” sabres and other creative designs that can be spun or manipulated.  This equipment is combined with dance and other interpretive movement.  Indoor guard is the winter (indoor) version of color guard.  This group performs to a pre-recorded sound track.

A quick note from your instructor, Mr. Swain…
It is a great honor to be a part of this extended band family.  I joined color guard at the end of college and have competed in all classifications of Winter Guard.  I want all students who are interested in being a part of the guard program to be open to all of the joy and enthusiasm that performing brings. This activity can be challenging, but the reward is beyond anything imaginable and we will work with you to be the best version of ourselves, both on and off the floor.  Please contact me with any questions and concerns. We hope that you join us.
