The MtH Modern Band is an ensembles in which students learn concrete, intellectual knowledge, and the physical skills and disciplines necessary to perform on a musical instrument, as well as an appreciation for music, musicianship, and the language of popular music, including rock, pop, blues, R&B, jazz, country, and everything in between. Unlike other academic courses, in the Modern Band Program the quality of the end product and other students' educational experiences depend on the combined efforts of the ensemble. This ensemble is open to any Mt. Hebron musicians that would like to experience the joy of performing live. We are particualrly interested in Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano (Synthesizer), Bass (Acoustic/Electirc), Drum Set, Vibraphone, Auxiliary Percussion, and Vocalists). This ensemble will work to prepare at least two concerts a year, develop skills in listening, reading, and improvisation, and perform music in a variety of modern styles (including but not limited to swing, modern jazz, funk, rock, and pop).
We are also looking for students that would be interested in the production/technical side of the ensemble experience, including audio engineers and sound designers. We will still work to provide a jazz experience for interested students, but will supplement this experience with more contemporary music. Auditions are held in the fall of each year. QUESTIONS? Please contact Mr. Fischer (Band Director) at [email protected] for more information. |
