ORIENTATION

Welcome to the Mt. Hebron Band family!

Dear Mt. Hebron students, parents, and families,

I am so excited to welcome you as the newest members of our family.  Welcome to the history and tradition of the Mt. Hebron Bands and Marching Unit that dates back to its humble beginnings in 1965.  I hope that you are ready for an outstanding year filled with music, laughter, hard work, friendships, and amazing growth.  I want you to know that each and every one of you is an important part of our future success.  I am counting on you to help me carry on the MtH traditions while writing your own story into the history of our program.

As with any organization, communication is one of the key components of our success.  I invite you to partner with me to communicate openly about how best to support you and your musical endeavors.  Together we can assist every student musician in achieving their fullest potential while embracing the inherent joy of making music together.

I look forward to sharing this amazing journey with each of you.

VIKING STRONG,

Dr. Fischer
Director of Bands

BELIEVE…  in yourself…  in each other…  in the journey!

PRESENTATION DECK

PARENT VOLUNTEERS - MtHMU Boosters, Inc.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are in the process of rebuilding our parent organization to support the ongoing efforts of the entire music program. We have volunteer needs across almost every facet of our organization, which means we need you! We will share detailed information about volunteer opportunities at the Band - Marching Unit Orientation, and we are asking every family to find a way to get involved.

WAYS & MEANS
The Ways and Means Committee oversees fundraising for the MtHMU Boosters, Inc. The Boosters’
annual budget exceeds $50,000 (about $250 per band student). It is a common misconception that our band program is primarily funded by the school system, but in reality we receive less than 5% of our budget from the school! For our student musicians to have a successful band program, the Boosters facilitate a variety of fun and profitable fundraisers.

Why do we need to raise funds?
  • Instrument Repair & Maintenance - The county provides limited funds for instrument repairs, and some of our inventory is over 30 years old.
  • Instrument Purchases - The county provides some instruments on a three-year rotation, but our instrument needs, driven by growth and aging inventory, far outpace this support.
  • Uniform Replacement Fund - Some uniforms are also over 30 years old! They are in constant need of repair and replacement.
  • General Expenses - Numerous smaller expenses add up, including: show design, music, clinicians, guest artists, more music, student awards, additional staffing, sticks/mallets, accessories, etc. The list goes on and on.
  • Trip Costs - To help cover individuals’ trip costs and ensure our program is inclusive and affordable.

Student participation in fundraising throughout the year is vital because:
  1. Fundraising projects and events are fun, team-building experiences.
  2. Part of the proceeds from many of our fundraisers go directly into each student's account ledger. These funds can be used to help pay for fees, the spring trip, etc.
  3. Volunteering and fundraising are part of taking personal responsibility for an organization that benefits students.
  4. If a student does not help with fundraising, he or she benefits from the hard work of his/her peers and parents without contributing.

Here is our sincere request to you as a Parent…

Please PARTICIPATE, and please ENCOURAGE your STUDENT(S) to PARTICIPATE!
In addition to raising funds, these activities help build community!

Parent volunteers are needed to plan and organize fundraising events and projects.
It’s fun, limited in scope and time, and a great chance to meet other parents!

Feel free to contact any executive board member
with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have (or to volunteer!)

We look forward to working with each of you
to help make fundraising positive, profitable, and fun!

Thank you for your continued support!
