PROGRAM OVERVIEW
|
The MtH Jazz Ensemble(s) and Jazz Combo are ensembles in which students learn concrete, intellectual knowledge, and the physical skills and disciplines necessary to perform on a musical instrument, as well as an appreciation for music, musicianship, and the language of jazz. Unlike other academic courses, in the Jazz Program the quality of the end product and other students' educational experiences depend on the combined efforts of the ensemble. These ensembles are comprised of the traditional jazz instrumentation (Alto - Tenor - Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drum Set, Vibraphone, Auxiliary Percussion, Vocalist). All ensembles work to prepare at least two concerts a year, develop skills in jazz improvisation, and perform music in a variety of modern styles (including but not limited to swing, modern jazz, funk, rock, and pop).
Auditions are held in the fall of each year. QUESTIONS? Please contact Mr. Fischer (Band Director) at joe_fischer@hcpss.org for more information. |
Jazz Ensemble
The MtH Jazz Ensemble is a co-curricular ensemble (co-curricular means students MUST be enrolled in a performing (concert) ensemble in order to participate, except students that play non-traditional band instruments, including: Guitar, Piano, Bass (Electric/Acoustic), or vocalists) open to students in grades 9 - 12 that explores standard and contemporary jazz repertoire. This group performs multiple concerts throughout the year, performing music at an advanced grade level of difficulty. |
Jazz Combo
The MtH Jazz Combo is a co-curricular ensemble whose membership comes from the MtH Jazz Ensemble. This ensemble focuses on improvisational jazz in a chamber ensemble setting. The instrumentation changes from year to year. This group performs along with the jazz ensemble but is also in demand for performances throughout the extended community. |
