Marching Uniforms
The MtH Marching Unit considers it an honor to wear the marching uniform. The uniform is a sign of commitment and represents the Mt. Hebron High School of the past, present, and future. Care of the uniform is the responsibility of the student. An inspection is held before each performance; disciplinary actions are taken for not wearing the uniform properly and for improper actions while in uniform. When you are in uniform, you are not looked upon as an individual, but as a member of our Band Program... past and present. Remember, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you represent all of those that have come before you, all of those present with you, and all of those that hope to follow you. What type of impression are we leaving?
The following guidelines have been developed to help create a positive visual presentation for the MtH Marching Unit. The MtH Marching Unit wears its uniform with PRIDE and NEVER appears in public out of uniform. Proper dress in uniform is defined in two ways:

MARCHING UNIFORM GUIDELINES
As a member of the MtHMU, students will be issued a marching uniform for use throughout the season. These uniforms represent a considerable financial investment on behalf of the MtHMU Boosters, Inc., as neither the school, nor the county contributes funds toward the purchase of replacement uniforms. The funds collected for marching uniform repair and maintenance each year are used to repair and replace marching uniforms for the entire marching unit. This uniform is your responsibility while in your care.
SOCKS
If the uniform is not returned, the following charges will be assessed by the HCPSS and, if not paid, can prevent students from receiving prom tickets, transcripts, and diplomas. Replacement costs are as follows...

SOCKS
- Black (Dress) Socks are required and must reach at least mid-calf. No ankle length or no show socks!
- Shoes can be cleaned with warm soapy water and shined further using window cleaner.
- Shoes are not permitted in the garment bag!
- Shoes should be cleaned/polished prior to EVERY performance. (DO NOT polish shoes while in uniform!)
- Gloves are worn by all members of the ensemble except percussion. The uniform maintenance fee covers the cost of (2) two pairs of gloves. We suggest that one pair is used for practice and one pair is used for performances. Additional gloves are $3.00 per pair.
- DO NOT let the cuffs of the pants drag on the ground or catch on your shoes. Adjust your suspenders, hem your pants (with the assistance of a Parent Volunteer), or exchange them for better fitting pants. Students returning pants with frayed cuffs will be assessed an additional fee to cover repairs.
- All Winds/Percussion MUST wear the Official MtHMU T-shirt under their uniform. This will allow us to be uniform in Half Uniform.
- The Shako should always be worn squarely on the head, not tilted backwards. The strap should rest against your chin, not be under your chin or in your mouth. Hair will need to be pulled up so that it fits inside pf the shako.
- An inspection takes place before every performance. Students dressed improperly will not be allowed to perform.
- Instructions for hanging the uniform following each performance are given. No one is permitted to leave until all materials are PROPERLY stored.
- Uniforms that are wet will be hung to dry on chairs in the band room to avoid damaging the uniform.
- Uniforms are to be transported in the school issued garment bag.
- Uniform jackets and pants may need to be dry cleaned throughout the season. More information on dry-cleaning responsibilities will follow.
- Full uniform includes: fastened collar, completely zipped, proper sleeve/pant length, proper sock length/color, carrying the shako properly, (Clean) gloves, being clean shaven, NO jewelry, watches, fingernail polish, or make-up, and conducting yourself properly.
- You are to remain in Full Uniform until instructed otherwise by the Director of Bands.
- There is no running, swearing, eating, drinking, or excessive affection while in uniform. The only exception to the eating/drinking rule is made by the Band Director, while participating at games/parades/competitions.
- Size changes - Hemming - Alterations: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CUT THE FABRIC OR PERMANENTLY ALTER THE UNIFORM. If you require a different size, please contact the parent volunteers to exchange your uniform or to assist you with temporary alterations.
