For students interested
in growing the art of performance in color guard
Welcome to the Collective Winter Guard!  We are excited to offer a winter color guard experience for students throughout Howard County.  The Collective Winter Guard is a voluntary, extra-curricular ensemble and is open to any students enrolled in a HCPSS high school.
WHAT IS WINTER (INDOOR) GUARD?
Indoor guard is a team of visual artists/performers who perform choreographed dances (also known as routines or shows) while manipulating various pieces of equipment or props to enhance and interpret music or a theme.  Equipment includes a combination of flags, “mock” rifles, “mock” sabres and other creative designs that can be spun or manipulated.  This equipment is combined with dance and other interpretive movement.  Indoor guard is the winter (indoor) version of color guard.  This group performs to a pre-recorded sound track.
