MT. HEBRON MARCHING UNIT (MtHMU)
We are very proud of the history and tradition of the MtH Marching Unit (MU) that dates back to 1965 when the school first opened. The MU is an all-inclusive ensemble that combines the talents of the Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Ensemble. This ensemble is joined by two auditioned auxiliary groups: The Color Guard and the Dance Team. The MU is visible throughout the community and region, performing in parades, community events, and during pregame and halftime of all home football games. Students also enjoy the opportunity to perform as a Pep Band for away football games and other athletic events throughout the year. ALL WINDS and PERCUSSION students should review the materials below.

WINDS
Wind players at Mt. Hebron have a variety of performance opportunities. Students have been placed into one of the 3 curricular ensembles (Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble) where they will perform both small and large ensemble literature, as well as work as a wind section within a band setting. Wind players also participate as a member of the MtH Marching Unit. The MtHMU Winds Section is comprised of several distinct sections... COLOR GUARD
Members of the MtH Color Guard spin flags and also manipulate other props, adding an important visual element to the Marching Unit. This auxiliary group is open to any Mt. Hebron student interested in being a part of our family. No prior experience is required and students do not have to be enrolled in a performing ensemble to participate. Color Guard is a non-graded, extra-curricular activity. So… talk it up with your friends and get them involved. Band students are welcome to participate in the color guard and many of our instrumentalists love being a part of the guard in the fall. Guard is only available for option A participation. Click HERE for more color guard information. |
MARCHING UNIT REGISTRATION

We will be hosting several full ensemble rehearsals in the late spring.
The goal of these rehearsals is to break the ice and get to know your fellow band/marching unit members
while also providing foundational skills that can be rehearsed throughout the summer.
We plan to have lots of music and exercises for you and maybe even a few frozen treats as well.

COMMITTMENT
The Word of the Day is “COMMITMENT” The Mt. Hebron Band and Marching Unit is one of the most visible representations of the MtH Music Program. We are ambassadors of Mt. Hebron HS and represent the past, present and future of the Band Program. Please review the event calendars included on this page to ensure that you have all dates for the upcoming year. This is a critical step to ensure our success. |
EVENTS CALENDAR
The links below provide access to TENTATIVE calendars for 2025-2026. Anything listed in red is not yet confirmed but will be added ASAP. BAND EVENTS CALENDAR MARCHING UNIT EVENTS CALENDAR |
PLEASE NOTE: We will work with you to find the flexibility necessary so that you can actively participate in the Band/Marching Unit while pursuing other Mt. Hebron activities/athletics. However, active participation is required and open communication is necessary to ensure that we are all working together. Rehearsals/Performances during and outside of the school day are a required (graded) component of the Band Program.
Please contact Dr. Fischer at [email protected] with any questions.

COMMUNICATION
Communication is a key component to our success. We will continue to use the email system in Canvas to communicate important information but there are also times when we will need to send emails/texts outside of the Canvas system. We use an online system called CutTime to organize contact information and track inventory. We ask that every student/family log into CutTime and update their contact information. We will provide detailed information at Orientation about how to log-in, update and access student account info. Updating this information will ensure that you don’t miss any communications. |
We also use Remind to send quick updates that might otherwise get lost in an email. Use the links below to join our Remind group chats so that you can get updates and reminders throughout the year.

PARENTS VOLUNTEERS - MtHMU Boosters, Inc.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Many global changes have not been kind to volunteer organizations and we are in the process of rebuilding our parent organization to support the ongoing efforts of the entire music program. We have volunteer needs in almost every facet of our organization and that means we need you! We will share detailed information about volunteer opportunities at Orientation and we are asking every family to find a way to get involved.

CHANGING INSTRUMENTS
One of the challenges of our growing program is providing balanced ensemble instrumentation. We have too many of some wind instruments and not enough of some other wind instruments. You might consider learning a new instrument to help close the gap. This is a great opportunity to grow as a musician, re-energize your love for music, and fill an ensemble need. Contact Dr. Fischer is you would like to be considered. We particularly need more of the following instruments: Band Needs... Oboe, Bassoon, Horn, Euphonium, Tuba Marching Unit Needs… Mellophone (Marching Horn), Tuba/Sousaphone |
SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS
The school has a small inventory of professionally maintained instruments. Students who do not own their own instrument (or have been asked to switch to a new instrument to fulfill instrumentation needs) will have priority in using these instruments. More information will be provided at Orientation. NOTE: Due to our growth, we may not be able to provide school-owned instruments to all who might need them. Please be patient as we work through this challenge together. Students may need to rent an instrument to fully participate in the band program. |
